NRL: Queensland Maroons captain Daly Cherry-Evans has saved some early embarrassment as a late ankle tap denied a certain Blues try.
The Maroons and Blues both lost players in a bizarre double sin binning after an all-in brawl spilled over the sideline inQueensland second rower Jeremiah Nanai was given his marching orders for being the third man in and igniting the brawl, while Cam Murray was also binned under strange circumstances after rushing in despite being on the bench at the time of the fracas.
The fight started after Jarome Luai charged at Daly Cherry-Evans after play was whistled dead when Blues star Bradman Best knocked the ball on. The only place to watch every game of every round LIVE with no ad-breaks during play is Fox League, available on Kayo. New to Kayo?Luai’s shove caused Cherry-Evans to retaliate and push the Blues five-eighth in the face, with Nanai joining in soon after to spill the brawl over the sidelines.Blues great Andrew Johns believed Luai should have been sin binned for “instigating: the melee.“He should never be sin-binned for that. Should never be sin-binned for that.
Murray was then called back onto the field where referee Ashley Klein also gave him ten minutes, despite Cherry-Evans’ pleas for the Blues lock to be sent off given he joined the affray from the bench.“That should’ve been a send off,” Cherry-Evans yelled at Klein. In unique scenes, because Murray was on the interchange and not on the playing field at the time, the Blues had to pick a player to come off to make it 12.“I think what happens is NSW they select a player to remove and it looks like it’s been Mitch Barnett,” Johns said.“He’s got his hands up in the air going, “I’ve done nothing.”
