A UFC ring doctor has left fight fans and commentators in disbelief after giving his tick of approval despite a star being in serious pain.
Immediately, we knew her knee was compromised, but we got the true extent of it before the third round, when the doctor on hand appeared to diagnose her with a partial ACL tear. He did that, simply by examining her left knee with his hands.
After a three-second long examination, the doctor told the referee that Barber suffered a “partial ACL tear,” and that “she’s fine.” The commentary crew was stunned by the fact that the doctor was allowed to examine Barber’s knee, and was seemingly able to make that sort of diagnosis without any technology. “I’ve never seen this in my life; they’re doing an examination of her knee,” Joe Rogan said on the broadcast. “What is he, an MRI?” Rogan continued, after the doctor made his diagnosis. “Is that a guy a human MRI?” Rogan then began to question why the examination was allowed to happen, pointing out the UFC 239 main event where Thiago Santos suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL in a loss to Jon Jones. “I don’t get that,” Rogan said. “I’ve never seen that. I’ve never seen that happen with a man. They would never examine a man’s knee.” Barber was able to survive the third round without a stoppage, but did suffer a unanimous decision loss to Modafferi for her first loss in the UFC.
