A New South Wales vet has issued a warning to fishermen ahead of the long-weekend after making a shocking find inside a green turtle.
"I've never seen this many fishing hooks inside one turtle," Senior Veterinarian Larry Vogelnest said, explaining it was rushed straight to emergency surgery."I was very concerned that this turtle wouldn't survive because of the extent of the damage.""While she's not quite out of the woods yet, she is eating and doing well so I feel quietly optimistic," he said.The green turtle pulled through surgery but is facing a long road to recovery.
The 50kg Green turtle – who is believed to be female and close to breeding age – is the sixth turtle to be rushed to the facility for care this year.Behind the scenes at Taronga Wildlife Hospital
