Usual powers New Albany, Columbus Academy and Bexley are among the central Ohio teams standing out this spring.

The same is true for their teams, as many of the usual powers again look poised to make deep postseason runs either as teams or with talented singles and doubles players throughout their lineups.

Uppu became North’s first boys state qualifier in singles as a sophomore, then opted to play on the ITF World Tennis Tour a year ago. That included domestic matches as well as trips to Canada and Mexico.“I gained a lot of match experience and playing two, three and four intense matches in a weekend really helped,” Uppu said. “I’m serving really well and hitting my forehand well. I’m proud of my consistency and my strategy and preparation. I’m a better server now and I’m physically stronger now.

Sophomores Rowen Lo and Connor Thornton and freshman Ian Chang share doubles time with senior Cory Wu. Chang and Wu were undefeated in doubles and Thornton was 7-1 at second doubles entering a Wednesday match against Dublin Coffman, according to OhioTennisZone.com.Last year’s district runner-up, sophomore Sam Lessard, has continued to play first singles for Bexley .
