New 'lanes' for goods trade. Goods destined for Northern Ireland are to be processed through a 'green lane', which will have a reduced requirement for customs. Goods destined for the Irish Republic will go through a 'red lane' and be subject to EU checks. Retaining 'safeguards' of sovereignty. A new safeguard, called the Stormont brake allows the elected Assembly a say over changes to EU goods laws and can stop them from applying in Northern Ireland. The UK government has a veto over this, Mr Sunak added.
