A new clue has been released five months after two people died in a fire in Melbourne’s west as the hunt for those responsible continues. Firefighters were called to a panel shop on Bunnett St in Sunshine North just after 4am on February 23 to find it engulfed in flames. A white dual cab ute is believed to have pulled up outside the business just before 4am and a male got out of the car and emptied the contents of a jerry can on the factory door.
The fire quickly spread to a factory behind the panel shop, in which two people were sleeping at the time. The 42-year-old and 48-year-old men both died at the scene. On Wednesday, police released CCTV of the white dual cab ute with a silver tray travelling on Albert Dr in Melton South about 40 minutes after the fire. It was later found burnt out on Gisborne Rd in Coimadai at 5.20am the next morning.
