With a hybrid V8, the Continental GT Speed will be available as a coupe or convertible.
The newcomer is the fourth generation of the modern Continental , and the first with GT coupe and GTC convertible versions available from day one.It is also the first mainstream Bentley with single headlights since the 1950s, while the radical new face was apparently “inspired by the focused expression of a hunting tiger”. The sharply defined rear haunches carry on a design trait introduced with the original Continental coupe of 1952.
The new hybrid is known as the Speed, a term previously used with the 12-cylinder version, now discontinued. It combines a 4-litre V8 engine with a large gearbox-mounted electric motor to produce a maximum output of 575 kW and 1000 Nm. That’s 19 per cent more power and 11 per cent more torque than the 6-litre W12 previously available. The 26 kWh battery pack, mounted behind the rear axle to achieve a 49:51 weight distribution, gives up to 81 kilometres of electric-only driving.
The acceleration figure for the GTC is 3.4 seconds, and the soft-top is electronically limited to 285km/h.Bentley is taking Australian orders for early 2025 delivery, but says it hasn’t confirmed the price. It won’t be cheap; the outgoing model ranges from about $460k to more than $700k, plus options and on-road costs. For $4 million-plus, you can own a piece of history: the limited-edition Bature W12 coupe. As to what might come next, read on.
