Australia Post delivered a record 2800 parcels every minute in November and December as Aussies turned to online shopping to stretch their dollars further.

The new data revealed almost 103 million parcels were delivered and 7.8 million households made at least one online purchase in the last two months of 2024.

Health and wellness was the most popular category, with a 20.5 per cent growth in the number of online purchases year-on-year.There was a strong demand for items such as vitamins, protein powders and other dietary supplements. The busiest day for parcel delivery was December 9 in the lead-up to Christmas.

Australia Post Executive General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce services Gary Starr said the record volume of deliveries reflected an investment in new and upgraded parcel facilities. "As we look ahead, retailers have a tremendous opportunity to learn from and capitalise on the growing appetite for online shopping, especially during key sales events," Starr said.
