Victorian health authorities are confident they have identified the source of Melbourne's deadly legionnaires' disease outbreak.
Health authorities in Victoria have provided an update on the source of Melbourne 's legionnaires' disease outbreak which has resulted in more than 100 cases and two deaths.
Chief Health Officer Dr Clare Looker confirmed to reporters on Friday testing of a cooling tower in Laverton North earlier this week detected legionella bacteria."We're working closely with the operator of the cooling tower to understand how this legionella bacteria grew in the tower. "The tower was visited early in our investigations on the 30th of July. It was disinfected within 24 hours of that visit," she said.
As of 2pm on Friday, total confirmed cases stood at 107, with five suspected cases also linked to the outbreak. "Whilst we have seen a number of cases continue to be notified to the department in the last week all of these cases have a similar symptom onset around those dates," she said.
