A change in weather reinvigorated the Mosquito Fire on Tuesday.
PLACER COUNTY – As crews continued to battle a reinvigorated Mosquito Fire in Placer and El Dorado counties, a separate blaze broke out along Interstate 80, spurring a closure of the roadway in both directions Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office ordered evacuations in the Ridge, Forest Hill and Murray Ranch road areas. Westbound I-80 was closed at State Route 20 and eastbound I-80 was closed at Gold Run. The Mosquito Fire, meanwhile, was reinvigorated by a change in the weather. In a videotaped morning update, Jonathan Pangburn, a fire behavior analyst, said wind coming out of the southwest was providing “fresh oxygen” to the 49,000-plus acre fire.In previous days, a layer of smoke had settled over the blaze, tempering its growth.
