It has been closed for several years
Neighbours on the border of Aspley and Old Basford have reminisced about an old pub in the area that has been closed for several years. The Newcastle Arms in Nuthall Road closed several years ago, and owners Star Pubs and Bars have placed a sign outside advertising that the pub is available to lease, and that a refurbishment is planned.
“It started off as a good pub and then it just went through so many different owners it was hard to keep track but it could be a good pub again if it’s done-up correctly.”Stephan has lived in the area for around 30 years. He continued: “I go to The Whitemoor sometimes but I usually drink at home. The Newcastle Arms is closer so, if it reopened, I’d definitely drink there again.”
Carl Rapley, 78, who is retired and lives in Old Basford, said: “It should have reopened long ago. I know there’s a crisis and people are skint but this pub used to have people coming in and out until closing time. There’s no doubt in my mind people would go in again if it was to reopen.”Paris Baker, 32, who lives in Aspley, added: “This has always been a pub, I can’t remember much about it but it’s been there forever.
