It's a fresh start for the pub which closed in June

A pub has reopened with a smart new look, a new name, and new faces behind the bar. The former Pear Tree in Keyworth has been rebranded as The Windmill - the symbol of the village, which used to have a windmill until it was demolished in 1956 to make way for new houses.

New operator John Carroll said: "The weekend was manic, just crazy, in a good kind of way. There was a high footfall through the door. I'm sure people were just checking the place out but it's been good."I was more pleased and more impressed with the Sunday and Monday as you'd expect a pub to be busy on a Friday and Saturday night but the footfall as been quite good on a quiet day like Sunday and an even quieter day like Monday.

"You can get two main dishes for £15 on Monday and Tuesday, which is not bad value. The quality is there," said John. Small plates are another option. Choices include crispy breaded mushrooms, halloumi fries, nachos, spicy crab cakes and gunpowder tater tots. Currently it's just bookings only for food but walk-ins will be welcome from August 27.

The Windmill's revamp has created a brighter new look with fresh decor, with windmill themed memorabilia, and fresh seating including booths and new high tables. New equipment has been installed behind the scenes in the kitchen, while outside has also have a revamp, with new seating in the garden, a pergola and an all-weather heater.
