Rugby League: England has taken out Game one of a historic rugby league series at home against Tonga, despite a grandstand finish from the visitors.
A new-look England side have narrowly avoided defeat at the hands of Tonga in their first of three Test matches played on their home soil.
Midway through the first half, Tonga held a 12-6 lead courtesy of tries to Tigers outside back Starford To’a and Knights backrower Tyson Frizell.But the hosts then kept Tonga out for 53 minutes, with a try to Mikey Lewis and a Tom Johnstone double handing England a lead their opponents couldn’t claw back.
The winger was able to burn his opposite man and stun the Tongan side as the scores sat level at 12-all.Johnstone’s second match-sealing try came from a horror error, with Will Penisini putting down a pass which landed in the winger’s hands.
