The newest thing about Cleveland’s baseball team is the 500-lb gorilla in the middle of the diamond. That would be the name, Guardians. The players who will open the season have accepted it. Or least they’ve been well rehearsed in voicing their acceptance.

Truth be told, the people who run the Guardians, known as the Indians from 1915 through last September, didn’t expect the rollout to take place on a freshly-paved five-lane highway. But even they couldn’t have foreseen the pothole known as MLB’s 99-day lockout that caused the rescheduling of opening day and shortened spring training to seemingly a long weekend in the sunshine of Arizona and Florida.
