In the 18 months since baby Arthur William McConachy passed away, his adoring parents have channelled their love into fundraising nearly $110,000 in his name for vital equipment needed for other babies in Flinders' ICU.
Steph and Huw now regard Flinders' neonatal intensive care unit as Arthur's home for his short life and say the staff worked hard to care for the young family, despite the additional challenge of COVID-19 restrictions on the wards at the time.
"We're in such a lucky place, but there's still so much more to be done with getting the tools into the right hands [of] the doctors and nurses and midwives."Overseas friends of the couple who were desperate to lend their support set up a $1,000 fundraising page in Arthur's memory, which was quickly surpassed.
It was at those events the couple shared what pieces of equipment the funds were being used to purchase. "This bassinet could then hold all the life support material for the baby, so the baby could go outside or somewhere else.
