To be eligible for the second cost of living payment, new claims must be received by mid-December
People who have reached the Department for Work and Pensions official retirement age of 66 can still qualify for the second instalment of the UK Government’s £650 cost of living payment, if they make a new claim for Pension Credit before mid-December which later turns out to be successful.
This is because new claims for Pension Credit can be backdated up to a maximum of three months, which means submitting a claim before December 16 will see it fall within the qualifying period - August 26, 2022 to September 25, 2022. People on Pension Credit may also qualify for the £300 pensioner cost of living payment which will be added to Winter Fuel Payments in November/December.
