A public consultation will be launched on the latest design
Residents and road users near a Nottinghamshire town are invited to have their say on the designs for the new A46 bypass. It is hoped that the new multi-million pound road near Newark will tackle congestion on the crucial road.
It was announced in February 2022 that the preferred route for the bypass was Option 2 Modified, which included many of the suggestions contributed by residents in local communities. This preferred route will also see the bypass built further away from the nearby village of Winthorpe.
“But it is very important to us that the views of road users and local communities are fully considered in the delivery of this scheme. We want insight from people on the potential impact our scheme may have on their journeys and their communities. The proposals for the design include a flyover junction at Cattle Market with the A46 elevated to pass over the roundabout, which will separate through traffic from local traffic to improve safety for all road users. It is also proposed that the Winthorpe roundabout is enlarged to a five arm roundabout with traffic lights to connect the new link, and for traffic lights to be added to the Farndon junction to improve the flow of traffic during peak hours.
