clearly has a lot of fans in D.C. When the Rent the Runway co-founder andhit Capitol Hill last week to meet with lawmakers about workplace reforms, she was pleasantly surprised to see Congress’ outgoing mail boxes packed with Rent the Runway garment bags.
Hyman has been a longtime champion of workplace equality for women, and I caught up with her during her D.C. trip to talk about everything from keeping women in the leadership pipeline to when it’s time to freeze your eggs.“Every employee at Rent the Runway receives parental leave, bereavement leave, paid family sick leave, sabbatical policies.
“If you were to evaluate our country like a business, we have an attrition problem. If a company had a consistent annual 30 percent attrition rate, the alarm bells would sound in your board of directors meeting.”“I’ve seen that having a diversity of women to look up to and be mentored by … throughout the organization is important, because then people can understand what their career and their life can be.
“When I was starting my career almost 20 years ago, there was basically this binary choice … as a young female employee. It was subtly understood that … you would either be a super high-powered, powerful, not married, not well-liked, tough person. Or, you would choose to be more meek and more subservient and outwardly sweet, and you wouldn't rise up.
“Bernie Sanders has fallen to 11 percent in the state, while Warren is running ahead of Biden by a slight margin, 22 percent to 20 percent, according to a Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom
