On Monday, Katy city council approved a new rendering for the downtown plaza renovation plan. LJA Engineering has estimated the project will cost about $2.7 million, with the goal to turn Katy's downtown and historic district into a destination area.

LJA Engineering has previously estimated the project will cost about $2.7 million in total, with the goal in mind to turn Katy'sThe project's design cost was about $378,000 and funded through reserves in the city's general fund. The proposed work involves creating a shaded stage area, adding a sculpture garden and fountain, and building a seating wall for visitors. Creating shaded areas was a major consideration in the plan, LeBlanc said.
