The recently announced Return to Silent Hill, written & directed by the original 2006 film's Christophe Gans, announces plot, cast, and crew details.

Return to Silent Hill plot and crew details have been revealed by the production company. The upcoming film is a new film adaptation of the Silent Hill horror video game franchise, which began in 1999 and has expanded to nine titles along with remakes and other linked games. The franchise previously came to the screen in 2006's Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans, which was followed by M.J. Bassett's Silent Hill: Revelation, adapting the game Silent Hill 3.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent press release from Bavarian film company FFF Bayern, they revealed further details about Return to Silent Hill. This includes the fact that the film will follow James Sunderland as he returns to the town of Silent Hill in pursuit of his lost love Mary Crane, only to find many familiar faces who present obstacles to his quest. The film is set to star Jeremy Irvine and feature cinematography by Enter the Void's Benoit Debie.

Driven by the shadows of his past, James Sunderland returns to Silent Hill to reunite with his lost love, Mary Crane. But the sinister, oppressive small town is no longer the place from his memories. He meets figures who seem all too familiar and who try to dissuade him from his search for Mary. The longer he searches for Mary, the more he begins to wonder if this is still reality – or if he has fallen into the gloomy underworld of Jacob Crane.

Irvine was also the lead in the recently canceled USA Network drama Treadstone, which hailed from the universe of Jason Bourne. Other recent major appearances of Irvine's include roles in Roland Emmerich's LGBTQ+ rights historical drama Stonewall and the jukebox musical sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. In the latter film he appeared in flashbacks playing a younger version of Sam, the character played in both Mamma Mia! films by Pierce Brosnan.

Return to Silent Hill will not be the first horror outing for the actor. He previously held a lead role in 2014's The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death, the sequel to the 2012 haunted house film starring Daniel Radcliffe. He will also be appearing in an upcoming witch-based horror film titled Baghead, which is currently in post-production.
