has recorded a slight dip in COVID-19 infections today, with 10,698 new cases reported overnight and 31 deaths.

There are 2494 people being treated in hospital - compared to yesterday's 2578 - and of those, 160 are being treated in the intensive care unit. NSW's daily infections tallies have largely remained the same this week, as the state continues to record an overall gradual decline in infections.Meanwhile, pub-and-club-goers can look forward to the return of dance floors, with Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres hinting the ban won't be extended further.

Singing and dancing in venues was originally barred until the end of January, but Premier Dominic Perrottet recently extended it to the end of February.NSW's daily case numbers have remained largely the same this week, but overall infections are trending down.Chief Medical Officer Professor Paul Kelly yesterday warned that Australia may be past the peak of this particular Omicron wave, but that it wouldn't be the last.

He predicted a joint wave of COVID-19 and the flu in winter - the first flu wave since the beginning of the pandemic.Aged care homes would be particularly vulnerable.But he said immunisation, vaccines, and incoming oral treatments for COVID-19 would hopefully limit the impact.
