Fantastic initative!

St James Swifts Football For All has launched its new Special Olympics football club, commencing in the 2022/23 season.Launched five years ago with only five players, St James Swifts now has 35 athletes playing for the FFA team aged between thirteen and thirty-seven with eighteen of those players eligible for the Special Olympics programme.

Special Olympics Ireland offers additional opportunities for athletes to develop and demonstrate their abilities in leadership roles through the Athlete Leadership Programme. This programme will be available to the St James Swifts players, offering both personal and professional development as well as acting within the wider organisation as athlete representatives and health messengers.

St James Swifts FFA entered its first junior league this season and say they look forward to defending the tournament they won in Blackpool last May. In 2024 the club has a target of competing in Spain.
