Eligible patients in Northern Ireland are now being sought to take part in the trial

A major Cancer Research UK clinical trial aiming to find effective new treatments for patients with rare forms of the disease has launched in Belfast.

Principal Investigator Professor Vicky Coyle, of Queen’s University Belfast and the Belfast HSC Trust, said: "We are very excited that patients with rare cancers in Northern Ireland can now be offered targeted drugs as part of the DETERMINE clinical trial. Matching treatment to a specific patient is known as precision medicine, a growing area of cancer medicine. Precision medicine is particularly used in rare cancers or cancers with specific genetic faults which cause it to develop.

"We are delighted that in opening this precision medicine trial in Belfast, Cancer Research UK is supporting patients in Northern Ireland with more targeted therapies."
