The patches, developed by med-tech company Vaxxas, will be the size of a 50-cent coin and applied to the shoulder, delivering a pain-free dose of"Those micro projections, when they penetrate the skin, deliver the vaccine to the immune cells," Vaxxas' chief development and operations officer, Angus Forster, said.The technology is now in the initial stages of critical trials, however it's not yet determined which vaccine provider the company will partner with.

"Our support here is in the form of the facility and our priority development area," Queensland deputy premier Steven Miles said. The benefits of the patch are set to be far-reaching, with the size and design of the patches allowing efficient transportation across Australia and the world. "Creating a vaccine technology that is quick and needle-free, it will be easier to transport, it will be able to deliver a wide variety of different vaccines," Mr Miles said.
