Liverpool were denied a goal by VAR during last Saturday's Premier League loss at Tottenham Hotspur and the PGMOL has put in place immediate changes for this weekend's round of Premier League fixtures
New VAR guidelines will be adhered to during this weekend's Premier League fixtures following the catastrophic error witnessed during Liverpool's defeat by Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.
It later emerged miscommunication between on-field referee Simon Hooper and VAR lead Darren England was the reason the goal was chalked off, leading to Jurgen Klopp demanding a replay of this fixture in the interests of sporting fairness. As part of the changes, the VAR lead will confirm the outcome of the checking process with the assistant VAR before a final decision is communicated to the on-field officials. This will stop the game restarting quickly as it did last week at Spurs. Such an approach would have avoided Diaz's goal being disallowed. The PGMOL claim this will enhance the clarity of communication with officials.
