Alamo Drafthouse and Landmark Theaters Sunset are offering exciting screenings, conversations, and experiences to celebrate Asteroid City.
Select theaters are celebrating Asteroid City in advance of the release of Wes Anderson’s latest. Anderson’s 11th film takes place in a fictional American desert town in the 1950s, where a Junior Stargazer convention is disrupted by an incredible event. The cast of Asteroid City features plenty of longtime Wes Anderson collaborators as well as new faces, such as Tom Hanks and Maya Hawke.
Although Asteroid City won’t be released in New York and LA until June 16th, and around the country on June 23rd, Alamo Drafthouse theaters are offering early screenings of the film on June 12th. Select Alamo Drafthouse locations will even be offering Asteroid City-themed beer from craft brewery Dogfish Head, and limited-edition lunchboxes and other collectibles are available for pre-order.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Related: Asteroid City: Release Date, Cast, Plot Details, Trailer & Everything We Know Los Angeles residents have another opportunity to experience Asteroid City in a novel way, as Landmark Theaters Sunset will play host to an Asteroid City pop-up from June 15th to June 30th. In addition to playing the film, Landmark Theaters Sunset will have set re-creations, costume displays, and props from the film. Guests are encouraged to take photos and visit the concession area, which will be re-tooled to look like the 1950’s luncheonette from the film.
Why Wes Anderson Movies Are A Theatrical Experience Despite the fact that Wes Anderson films are not exactly high-grossing summer blockbusters in the same way as a Star Wars or an Avengers film might be, there is a distinct benefit to seeing them in the theater. Anderson’s visual language is well-known to the point that audiences can easily imagine what a Wes Anderson Lord of the Rings trilogy would look like even without AI assistance.
