It comes after a period in which waits for an Uber ride grew longer in New York City, due to a driver shortage and a surge in food delivery requests through the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, Uber's food deliveries outpaced rides given to humans in the United States, as millions sheltered at home.
