New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters has called for an international agency to chase down the authors of Islamophobic postings on social media. Mr Peters made the comment at a Muslim Committee meeting in Istanbul where he called for unity to eradicate hateful ideologies.
The visit comes after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said any Australians or New Zealanders who came to Turkey with anti-Muslim sentiments would be sent back in a coffin 'like your grandfathers were' during the WWI Gallipoli campaign. He has since appeared to try to ease the diplomatic tensions, by praising Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's sensitivity in the aftermath of the attack.
