A newborn baby has been found with life-threatening injuries outside a home in Melbourne’s southeast. The baby boy was found unconscious in the driveway of a home on Gladstone Rd in Dandenong North about 2.40am on Friday. Paramedics took the infant to hospital in a critical condition, but police say his condition has slightly improved. A 25-year-old woman at the house was also taken to hospital, where she remains under police guard. It’s believed the baby was born overnight at the property.
Her housemates, who have only known her for several weeks, said they were unaware of her pregnancy. “We didn’t know she was pregnant because we’ve only known her for three weeks, and we do back-to-back shifts, so we don’t get to see each other,” one woman, who lives with the 25-year-old mother, told 7NEWS. “We are happy that the baby is OK, and we are still praying for her and the baby.” Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
