The Newcastle 500 has been called off, after the Supercars Championship decided not to include the city in next year's program."An event of this size and scale would have to be supported by local state MPs for it to ever go ahead, so the decision really does rest with the NSW government," she said.A recent survey commissioned by the City of Newcastle found 59 per cent of online respondents did not want the event to return for another five years.
