Health authorities say a number of COVID-19 positive partygoers who attended a Newcastle nightclub last week 'likely' caught the new Omicron variant.
NSW Health has issued an urgent alert after 24 people linked to a Newcastle nightclub tested positive for COVID-19, with a number of cases"likely" to be the Omicron variant.
Revellers who attended the prom night-themed event at The Argyle House between 9pm last Wednesday and 3am Thursday is a close contact and must get tested and isolate for seven days.Given the"high transmission" of COVID-19 at the venue, household contacts of the attendees are also required to get tested and isolate until the close contact receives a negative result.
"NSW Health is urging everyone of the importance of maintaining COVID-safe practices with transmission occurring at social events during the festive period," a statement read. "Everyone should remain vigilant when celebrating with family, friends and colleagues and should not attend any social functions if they have any symptoms."
