'It is understood that repairs are needed to loose tiling on the pool floor with the swimming facility required to be drained for work to be carried out.'
Plans to close Newry swimming pool for essential repairs have been kept away from the public eye as further delays to a closure strategy were discussed behind closed doors.
However, outraged councillors swiftly moved to force a u-turn on the decision and argued that they should be brought in to any future consultation on the leisure facility. This week the strategy, policy and resources committee discussed the potential plans for the swimming pool in confidential session.
