The remaining schedule includes a slew of games that will go a long way to determine not only which teams make the playoffs, but playoff seedings and home teams as well.
Though this report is focused on the final four weeks, the schedule makers actually pegged the previous three weeks while making the schedule.
First, there was the game last week between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens, and the New England Patriots at the Houston Texans. The 49ers and Patriots were both 10-1 and facing tough road tests, and they both lost against good teams. The Ravens defeated the 49ers, 20-17, to improve to 10-2, and then the Patriots lost to the Texans, dropping New England to 10-2—a No. 2 seed at this point, considering it lost to the Ravens head-to-head.
The Dallas Cowboys have lost two-consecutive games with losses to the at New England and at home against the Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving. The Cowboys are 6-6, yet they still lead the NFC East by one game over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys travel to face the Chicago Bears Thursday in the next scheduled NFL game. The Bears have a tough defense, which could cause trouble for a Cowboys offense needing a spark heading into the backstretch.

Both teams are 10-2, which is tied with Seattle for the best record in the NFC. The Saints already hold a head-to-head advantage over Seattle, so a win over the 49ers would strengthen the Saints' playoff standing. A 49ers win helps get them back in the thick of the NFC's top spot.The Ravens currently hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a win over the New England Patriots by virtue of head-to-head, but the Bills could shake things up with a win Sunday.
