Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) aimed his latest criticism of Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley at an issue not usually embraced by Democratic lawmakers: proper gun etiquette.
In a tweet on Saturday, Haley posted a photo holding a gun at a shooting range as a way to promote her campaign’s stance on the military and ensuring the country has “the equipment they need to keep us safe.” The photo prompted backlash from some Twitter users, criticizing the GOP candidate for the way she was holding the weapon.“Poser alert: Why is your finger on the trigger!” Gallego, a former Marine, said in a tweet.2.
The Arizona Democrat then listed a number of corrections to Haley’s form, noting the “bolt is clear back and there is no magazine” and that the “linked ammo on the stand you are ‘shooting’ from doesn’t feed into the magazine fed weapon you have.” Gallego also pointed to the way Haley was holding the gun, arguing the “stockwell is gonna hurt you [with] that weapon kickback.”
Gallego’s response is unlike typical Democratic attacks toward Republicans on the issue of guns, with those on the Left usually decrying such photos as they call for increased gun regulations.Haley’s post comes as she seeks to increase her national profile as she faces a crowded primary field for the GOP nomination that includes candidates such as former President Donald Trump, former Gov. Asa Hutchinson , entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and conservative talk radio host Larry Elder.
Other candidates are likely to jump into the fray, including former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott , and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
