More Hong Kong activists jailed for taking part in Tiananmen vigil last year as Beijing continues to tighten its grip over the financial hub

Police officers search a woman outside Victoria Park on the 32nd anniversary of the crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators at Beijing's Tiananmen Square in 1989, in Hong Kong, China June 4, 2021.

Three others were handed suspended sentences on the same charges of joining an unlawful assembly or inciting others to join. The Hong Kong Alliance had organised three decades of vigils commemorating the victims of the operation. But China is also in the process of remoulding the financial hub in its own authoritarian image following huge and often violent democracy protests that had convulsed Hong Kong in 2019.Prominent democracy figures have been arrested and anyone deemed "unpatriotic" purged.
