The United Nations has admitted several employees of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees “may have been involved” in the October 7 attack on Israel.
The United Nations has faced scrutiny after an investigation found nine UNRWA staff “may have been involved” in the October 7 attacks on Israel which killed 1,200 people.
“The Office of Internal Oversight Services has completed its investigation into 19 area staff… regarding allegations of involvement in the armed attacks of 7 October,” Mr Haq said. Mr Haq confirmed the evidence was not “conclusive” but there was enough to indicate the staff were likely involved. UNRWA had received more than AU$2 billion in 2023 from government partners including the United States, European Union and Australia.
