Washington is the second highest ranked PAC-12 team in the AP poll entering Week 1.
Former Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who set a Huskies single-season record and finished second in the nation with 4,641 yards passing last season, is set to lead Washington again after an 11-2 campaign. The Huskies had the No. 2-ranked offense in the country and defeated Texas in the Alamo Bowl last season. Penix is considered a Heisman Trophy candidate and wide receiver Rome Odunze and edge rusher Bralen Trice were both preseason All-Americans.
Boise State on the other hand went 10-4 last season and beat North Texas in the Frisco Bowl. The Broncos are favored to win the Mountain West Conference title this year, which has eluded them since 2019. Dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green returns after starting last season and running back George Holani will be in pursuit of his third straight 1,000-yard rushing season.
