DALLAS — With an 80-65 victory Thursday night, the University of Houston walked off the Moody Coliseum court for the last time in the foreseeable future.

Marcus Sasser had 20 points in his homecoming and Jarace Walker added 14 points as the Cougars won their sixth straight game. While top-ranked Alabama lost to Tennessee on Wednesday and No. 3 Purdue – among the top picks for the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament – fell for the third time in the last four games Thursday, the Cougars cruised to their 15th victory in the last 16 games. UH is expected to be among the four No. 1s when the NCAA Tournament selection committee offers a sneak peek at the top 16 seeds Saturday.

In a tight game for 14 minutes Thursday, the Cougars flexed their offensive muscle during a dominating stretch that included eight consecutive field goals. Three came during a 60-second blitz courtesy of Jamal Shead, who hit a jumper, finished off a steal with a dunk and added a 3-pointer for a 29-19 lead.Just before halftime, Walker hit a 3-pointer and Shead closed with back-to-back layups as the Cougars made nine of their final 11 shots in the first half.
