An internal police investigation has determined the officer will NOT face charges. 9News

South Australia police have announced that no action will be taken against the police officer who stoned a wombat to death in October.

Many people condemned the killing when a video of the incident was shared on social media with the South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens himself saying, at the time, he found it disturbing. In a statement today Commissioner Stevens said: "I still find some of the content of the video disturbing – I take personal displeasure in seeing any animal distressed, or being killed as the wombat was killed"."I asked investigators to bring together all available information to assess if criminal charges should be laid.

"The investigators have ascertained that as a traditional Aboriginal man, the Senior Community Constable has an appropriate permit to hunt wombats for food. "Whilst distressing to many who viewed the video, it has been established the Senior Community Constable's actions were not inconsistent with traditional hunting practices.A shirtless man races after the wombat, who was later identified to be an off-duty police officer.
