A messy lawsuit against Woolies for underpaying thousands of its staff hit a snag in court today that means it will drag on.

Wednesday’s interlocutory hearing to approve the settlement between Woolies and Canberra law firm Adero was ultimately adjourned to early 2022 after Justice Bernard Murphy found several aspects of the deal needed to be improved.

Woolworths is factoring in more than $370,000 in compensation. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Sarah Marshall As per that provisional agreement, Woolworths says it will pay 20,000 current and former salaried team members in its supermarkets, Metro, Big W, and Dan Murphy’s stores a flat fee of $2500 plus superannuation. This covers award-covered employees who were with the company as far back as 2010 – beyond the company’s six-year legal responsibility – because Woolworths no longer has rostering records for that time and cannot be sure of exact time sheet entries.
