Private reflections have replaced traditional public services and marches on a historic Anzac Day amid coronavirus restrictions.

"This Anzac Day is no lesser than any other," Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance chief executive Dean Lee told AAP. "You had a real sense that the nation was watching, that the nation was coming together around this moment," Mr Anderson said. Also on Anzac Day 1919, a small group of Anzacs who had been tending the graves of their mates gathered on the shores of Gallipoli."And so our remembrances today, small, quiet and homely, will be."
