Fed up with waiting for authorities, stranded rural residents worked together to fix their flood-damaged road and rescue a beloved grandmother who had been trapped for weeks.

He asked for volunteers to join him and other residents to help make the road passable in a campaign he named No Nan Left Behind.

“There were people from all walks of life, some veterans, some local community [members], some people we have never even heard of before,” Mr Hungerford said. In emails viewed by the ABC, residents asked for immediate and urgent help even while their road was still flooding, because they suspected there would be little hope of leaving their properties once waters receded.It is still raining on Beausangs Lane when resident David Sanderson emails Sunshine Coast Council asking for help.In just five days, their town of Conondale has 600mm of rain, making February 2022 the wettest month since 1968.
