Legendary broadcaster and Channel Nine veteran Liz Hayes could be the latest marquee name impacted by budget cuts at Nine, it has been revealed.
The iconic Aussie journalist is estimated to earn about $1.2 million annually for hosting the eponymous true crime series Under Investigation with Liz Hayes and contributing to 60 Minutes.
“To even consider killing off her show is just brutal - it means absolutely no one and nothing is safe.” Despite the dire warnings in the Daily Mail, SkyNews.com.au understands that Hayes’ employment is not under threat and the host would simply focus on 60 Minutes if Under Investigation is cancelled.
In June, Nine’s chief executive Mike Sneesby announced 200 job cuts as part of a $30 million cost-cutting plan for the business that will eliminate 5 per cent of the company’s total work force, mostly from its metro newspapers and the Nine TV network.“From our nationwide team of almost 5,000 people, around 200 jobs are expected to be affected across Nine including some vacant and casual roles not being filled,” Mr Sneesby said in a statement.
The company has sent a contingent of about 200 camera people, executives, TV talent and other staffers to the French capital for the duration of the Games.
