Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has taken Sydneysiders heading to work by surprise as she embarked on a bike ride through the Harbour City's cyclepaths - but it was not all smooth sailing as the stylish royal was forced to stop seconds later.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has surprised Sydney locals by riding through the city's cyclepaths to promote the"green transition" in her native country.

Princess Mary made a grand entrance to Sydney on Friday morning for a bike ride through the city's cyclepaths to promote"green transition" in her native country. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Jeremy Piper After a quick debrief, she tied her long brunette tresses into a pony tail as she was introduced to the bike she would be riding and put on her helmet.

Officials, a team of bodyguards and NSW Police following on bikes had to quickly stop behind Mary as she struggled to roll up the silk trousers which kept falling. After the small hiccup, the mother-of-four continued her bike ride closely followed by Danish officials, security and NSW Police officers. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Jeremy Piper
