Get tickets to see James Brandon Lewis Trio, Bob Mould, Zoh Amba and others perform at the 2023 Noise Pop Festival.
Lewis is one of the jazz music’s true rising stars. He is not, however, a new kid on the block. It’s been well over a decade since he released his debut album, 2010’s “Moments,” but the Buffalo artist’s career has really taken flight over the last few years.
The James Brandon Lewis Trio performs two shows — at 7 and 8:30 p.m. — Feb. 24 at SFJAZZ Center’s intimate Joe Henderson Lab in San Francisco. Tickets are $25-$30.He’s a first-tier alt-rock pioneer, who helped draw up the blueprint for the genre with his legendary ’80s act Hüsker Dü. Mould then went on to form another outstanding band — the short-lived ’90s act Sugar, responsible for the amazing debut record “Copper Blue” in 1992.
He’d also purse a very satisfying solo recording career, beginning with “Workbook” in 1989 and continuing through such efforts as 1996’s eponymous affair and 2008’s “District Line.” Mould performs a solo electric show at the Chapel in San Francisco on Feb. 23. Mark Eitzel, of American Music Club fame, opens. Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $27.50-$30.
