New South Wales Police Minister Yasmin Catley has paid no heed to calls from the state’s opposition to resign after she wasThe 95-year-old great grandmother was tasered by an officer in a Cooma aged care facility on May 17, after she was found armed with a steak knife prompting nursing home staff to alert authorities.

Following the incident, the first public statement released by NSW Police reportedly left out the word “taser” despite having first included it in the draft media release, which sparked questions from the opposition as to why the state’s leading policing figures would suppress the information. “I won’t be stepping down, that’s nonsense,” Ms Catley said in her first press conference since the cover-up allegations.

“My job as the Police Minister is to make sure that the police force is resourced properly and that I advocate for them to do their job and that’s what I’m doing.”
