South Korean officials are pushing to resume stalled nuclear talks with Pyongyang as tensions rise in the peninsula.
North Korea test fired two suspected ballistic missiles on Monday from its capital city Pyongyang’s international airport, the fourth test launch carried out by the country since the start of the new year, signaling a rise in tensions in the Korean peninsula....
South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who is visiting the United Arab Emirates, called for efforts to ensure stability in the region, his office said in a statement. Members of South Korea’s National Security Council also pushed for stalled nuclear talks with Pyongyang to resume.in response to the latest launch: “While we have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to our allies, these missile launches highlight the destabilizing impact of the DPRK’s illicit weapons program.”Ballistic missile launches by North Korea are banned under a series of resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council .
