An opposition group on North Lanarkshire Council have called for the authority to stage a new mini budget and use anticipated additional government funding to reverse forthcoming cuts to school transport eligibility.

“Our councillors have received ongoing constituent concerns on this subject and rightly so; the safety of.our young people travelling to school has to be assured.” Council leader Jim Logue said: “We currently estimate that there will be a budget gap of £49m over the next three years, at a time of increasing uncertainty about future financial settlements from the Scottish Government.

However, the SNP group stated: “ the only group that presented a budget proposal which included the full costings required to reverse the cuts to school transport implemented as a result of the Labour/Conservative composite budget in 2023.
