“They reprogrammed us… they stole our identity.” Five years after a public inquiry found systemic abuse in children’s care homes in Northern Ireland, Stormont ministers issued a public apology to survivors. JackieLongc4 reports.

Five years ago a landmark inquiry concluded that over a 73-year period, children in Northern Ireland’s care homes suffered systemic physical, emotional and sexual abuse and neglect.

Today, the victims of that abuse were finally given the apology they were promised by ministers in the Northern Ireland Assembly, the successors of those who failed to protect them as children.
