A year’s worth of rain has fallen on parts of Queensland over a few days in a “rain bomb” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says no one saw coming.
Mount Glorious, in the state’s Moreton Bay Region, has recorded 1500mm of rain over a week. Its average rainfall is 1600mm, the Bureau of Meteorology’s Diana Eadie tells reporters.Similar conditions have been recorded across the state’s southeast, with various locations recording more than 700mm in 24 hours.
“The significance of this event can’t be understated - just how much rain has fallen over a large number of catchments across southeast Queensland,” Eadie says.Palaszczuk describes the situation as unpredictable and one not even the Bureau of Meteorology saw coming.“And this rain bomb stayed over the entire southeast, and it had a big impact on the catchments and the streams and everything that went into the southeast of our state,” she says.
